RE: The tariff classification of Fluoral hydrate, CAS # 421-53-4, imported in bulk form, from Germany
Dear Mr. Chivini:
In your letter dated November 4, 2003 you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The subject product, Fluoral hydrate, is a halogenated derivative of an acyclic alcohol indicated for use as a pharmaceutical intermediate.
The applicable subheading for Fluoral hydrate, also known as 2,2,2-Trifluoro-1,1-ethanediol, will be 2905.59.9000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Halogenated, sulfonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives of acyclic alcohols: Other: Other….. The rate of duty will be 6.2 percent ad valorem.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
